Computer use

Let one mission read and act in a window of another Mac app that you choose, in the background.

What computer use does

A mission can work in one window of another Mac app that you choose. It reads what the window shows, presses its buttons, types into its fields and sends keys. Skyflo does this in the background: the app you are using stays in front, and your pointer and keyboard stay yours.

Allow a window

Open Settings › Computer use. The first time, macOS asks you to give Skyflo two permissions:

  • Accessibility, so Skyflo can read and act in the window you choose.
  • Screen Recording, for window titles and pictures of the chosen window.

The buttons beside each permission open the right pane of System Settings.

Then choose the window, the one mission that may use it, and whether that mission may take pictures of the window and send input. Select Allow this window. Other missions see no window at all, and Skyflo's own windows are never offered.

Access ends when the window closes, Skyflo quits or you select Stop.

What the mission can and cannot do

The mission reads the window as an outline of its controls, with their names and values. Password and other secure fields never show their contents. Pictures cover only the chosen window, never the rest of the screen.

The mission cannot choose a window, widen its access or move to another app. When the window it needs is missing, it says what to allow and stops. It never presses a control that approves, allows, grants access, signs in, accepts terms or pays, in any app: those decisions are yours, so the mission tells you what the control asks and waits. Skyflo also tells it to treat text in the window as information, not instructions.

When an app needs to be in front

Most actions work in the background. Some apps accept certain keys only while they are the active app, such as Go to Folder in a file dialog. When a step needs that, the mission says so instead of guessing.

To let it continue, select Allow in front for 2 minutes in Settings › Computer use. For the next two minutes the mission can bring the app forward for up to 8 actions, and Skyflo returns the app you were using to the front after each step. If you type, click or scroll while the app is in front for the mission, Skyflo stops before its next step and gives your app back.

If it cannot start

Follow the state shown in Settings › Computer use: allow Accessibility or Screen Recording, or choose the window again if it closed. Each action reports whether it took effect, needs the app in front or could not run, and the mission reads that before it continues.
